The Robinson's unique cockpit and controls layout requires a realistic representation when it comes to simulation and training. The RYAN AEROSPACE Robinson mixed reality solution does exactly that. It provides the trainee with ONLY the real elements that are needed (controls, knobs, buttons, switches, avionics etc.) but everything else (cockpit enclosure, some instruments that don't require any interaction and outside world) is rendered virtually.

Seemlessly blended, the real elements and virtual elements create a truly immersive and compelling flight training experience.

We have developed the R-22, R-44 and R-66 systems and can customise as required.

the  technology...

Mixed reality, not virtual reality. The system runs on the Varjo XR-4 headset, using passthrough cameras and chroma key technology to blend the real and virtual worlds seamlessly. The physical cockpit stays visible exactly as a pilot would see it. A blend of chroma-keyed surfaces and masks become the virtual environment, swapped in and out depending on the training scenario.

A flight model built on the real aircraft. The Robinson flight dynamics are modelled on the low-inertia rotor system, power management, and control sensitivity that define how these helicopters actually fly. Robinson helicopters are famously easy to over-control until a pilot has genuinely learned their feel, and that is precisely the feel this device reproduces.

longline   /  vertical  reference...

Many of our helicopter trainers have the ability to teach longlining / vertical reference / helso. Learning the art of being able to hover whilst also maintaining a swinging load slung underneath the helicopter is challenging and requires a whole new skill set. Our simulators take advantage of the InterSim plugin and using our mixed or virtual reality simulators, the pilot has the ability to be able to lean out the side of the aircraft to monitor the load.
