ROBINSON MIXED REALITY TRAINING DEVICE

RYAN AEROSPACE has developed this advanced mixed reality flight training solution for Robinson helicopters, combining real cockpit environments with immersive virtual and real‑world visual cues. Available for R-22, R-44, and R-66 configurations, these simulators are designed to enhance core helicopter handling skills while reducing reliance on aircraft hours and exposure to risk.

Our mixed reality approach is purpose‑built for helicopter training, where accurate depth perception and external sight cues are critical. By blending a physical Robinson cockpit with high‑fidelity visual environments, pilots train with natural hover references, realistic circuit sight pictures, and intuitive height and drift awareness that closely mirrors live flying.

Underpinning the mixed reality experience is an excellent Robinson flight model that accurately reproduces low‑inertia rotor dynamics, power management, and control sensitivity. This tight integration of flight dynamics and mixed reality visuals enables pilots to develop correct motor skills, judgement, and workload management from the earliest stages of training.

Robinson mixed reality simulators from RYAN AEROSPACE support safer, more efficient training with measurable operational benefits. Operators can increase training throughput, reduce aircraft wear and costs, and safely introduce demanding manoeuvres and emergency scenarios in a controlled, repeatable environment — delivering confident pilots and consistent training outcomes.

Using the Varjo XR-4 headset with passthrough cameras and chroma key, some elements (as seen in the headset) are real. Anything that is green becomes virtual.
