RYAN AEROSPACE (AUSTRALIA) has taken out the coveted Queensland Premier's Export Award in the Advanced Technologies Category.

Managing Director of RYAN AEROSPACE, Chris Ryan said he was "delighted to take out this prestigious award" giving credit to his small but growing team. "It's recognition of many years of hard work, persistence and a yearning desire to continue innovating", he added.

RYAN AEROSPACE has had recent success with the US military, but markets have also increased in Europe and Asia; especially with new products leveraging the power of virtual and mixed reality technologies.

Mr Ryan said "the face of simulation and training is changing dramatically and our products are part of a disruptive move to train helicopter and jet fighter pilots more safely and at a much lower cost."

Almost six hundred simulators have been shipped from the Gold Coast-based business, mostly to the US Air Force, Navy and Army.

This win makes RYAN AEROSPACE an automatic finalist in the National Awards with winners announced at a Gala event in Canberra later this year.

RYAN AEROSPACE was also a finalist in the Manufacturing and Advanced Materials category as well as the Small Business category.

RYAN AEROSPACE (Australia) has achieved an amazing milestone, the shipping of its 500th flight simulator.

From humble beginnings, RYAN AEROSPACE started producing rotary wing simulators in 2005 and later ventured into the fixed wing flight training market. Whilst traditional, certified simulators are part of RYAN's product offering, virtual and mixed reality technologies have taken the company to the next level, making RYAN a global leader in their field.

The US Air Force, US Navy and US Army are the top customers of RYAN AEROSPACE installing hundreds of devices around the US in support of Pilot Training Transformation (PTT) / Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT2.5), Aviator Training Next (ATN) and Fighter Bomber Fundamentals to name just a few.

Significant sales have also occurred in Australia, Europe and the Middle East. Other key customers and users include Prime Contractors such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Sikorsky, BAE Systems, CAE, Airbus Helicopters, EDMS as well as regulatory authorities such as the FAA.

RYAN AEROSPACE Wins Major Contracts to Supply US Air Force Jet Fighter and Helicopter Training Simulators

Australian Defence Minister, the Hon Peter Dutton today announced that RYAN AEROSPACE (Australia) has been awarded a series of contracts to supply nearly 300 jet fighter and helicopter training simulators to the US Air Force as part of the innovative new program known as "Pilot Training Transformation" or PTT.

"This is another example of the way defence industry in Queensland, and across Australia, is showcasing Australian innovation and ingenuity on the world stage," Mr Dutton said.

The Gold Coast firm is seen as a pioneer in the development of a new generation of flight training devices that leverage virtual and mixed reality technologies.

In recent years, the US Air Force has suffered not only from a shortage of pilots, but also a shortage of flight instructors who can deliver one-on-one training to the students. Further, it has proven cost prohibitive to procure more traditional simulators because of the extremely high cost. The government's Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) were tasked with looking to industry to find a better way to train pilots and RYAN AEROSPACE as a partner with Vertex Solutions, LLC were one of the many companies that made a submission to the government.

RYAN AEROSPACE developed a modular and reconfigurable flight training simulator that can be modified to represent a number of different fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. The simulators offer much greater value for money and have only a very small footprint compared to traditional training devices.

Coupled with a learning management system, the simulators allow a change of instruction from a "teacher-centered" model to more of a "learner-centered" training model. In other words, students (with the help of a virtual instructor) can virtually teach themselves many of the desired learning outcomes. The system is supported by an after-action review software package that automatically assesses, grades and logs the student's performance.

Major General Wills, 19th Air Force Commander has said "It's not because the VR puts magic in your head, it's because the student has put hours and hours of practice into a very realistic training situation. It's not that we want to cut those hours, but if I can have you solo by ride 4 (as much as 10 rides sooner than normal) imagine what I can do between rides 4 and 44."

Around 180 of the systems have already been delivered and installed ahead of schedule and the US Air Force Aviators have commenced training. It is expected that the final simulators will be delivered and installed in early 2022.

Aussie Company RYAN AEROSPACE Wins International Small Business of the Year Award

RYAN AEROSPACE (AUSTRALIA) has won the coveted Small Business of the Year Award in the International Military Training and Simulation (MS&T) Awards, a global awards program aimed to showcase the people, products, processes and organisations that deliver the sustained innovation and quality products and services of the military simulation training industry and community.

RYAN AEROSPACE specialises in the design, manufacture and through-life support of helicopter simulation training systems and has had recent success with the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force and the US Marine Corps. Markets have also increased in Europe and Asia and even here in Australia; especially with new products which leverage the power of virtual reality and mixed reality technologies.

Mr Ryan said "the face of simulation and training is changing dramatically, and our products are part of an innovative move to train helicopter and jet fighter pilots more safely and at a much lower cost. We have been working with friends, partners and colleagues all around the world to expand our network and I make special mention of Precision Flight Controls and Vertex Solutions based in the US who have helped work in these markets."

He made special comment to long-time friends and colleagues who were also finalists in the Small Business of the Year category, Cobra Simulation as well as SIMETRI, Inc.

The award was scheduled to be presented in person at I/ITSEC, the world's largest military simulation and training event in Orlando, Florida later this year but Mr Ryan said it was likely that an alternative ceremony will need to take place.

Precision Flight Controls and RYAN AEROSPACE Achieve FAA AATD Certification for Reconfigurable Bell 206 / Bell 407 Helicopter Simulator

A joint venture between Precision Flight Controls (PFC) and RYAN AEROSPACE (Australia) has seen the development of a new, cost-effective helicopter simulator which has just received certification under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules as an Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD). The device is reconfigurable between the Bell 206 and Bell 407 but can also be used as any generic rotary wing training aircraft.

The new helicopter simulator was launched almost a year ago at I/ITSEC, the world's largest military training and simulation event in Orlando, Florida USA and has now passed rigorous testing with the FAA to achieve this certification.

What this certification means for training schools is that they are now able to offer a more cost-effective and safe way to train helicopter pilots in a variety of key areas and to achieve credits in the simulator, rather than the real aircraft. With aircraft purchase and running costs forever being on the rise and simulators becoming more powerful and less expensive, there is a compelling business case to consider simulation as an effective training tool to supplement (and replace) some real helicopter flying.

To name just a few, these credits include:

- Instrument Proficiency Check, per FAA-S-8081 (latest version)

- Instrument Rating: up to 20 hours

- Private Pilot Certificate: up to 2.5 hours

- Commercial Certificate: up to 50 hours

- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate: up to 25 hours

Approved for use under the Part 141 Appendices as follows:

- Up to 2.5 hours toward the total Private Pilot flight training time requirements

- Up to 40% towards the total Instrument Rating flight training time requirements

- Up to 20% towards the total Commercial Pilot flight training time requirements

- Up to 25% towards the total Airline Transport Pilot flight training time requirements

- Up to 5% towards the total Flight Instructor flight training time requirements

- Up to 5% towards the total Flight Instructor Instrument flight training time requirements

- Private Pilot Airplane Single Engine or Multi-Engine Class Rating Course: up to 3 hours towards the flight training time requirements

- Commercial Pilot Airplane Single Engine or Multi-Engine Class Rating Course: up to 11 hours towards the flight training time requirements

- Airline Transport Pilot Airplane Single Engine or Multi-Engine Class Rating Course: up to 6.25 hours towards the flight training time

- Up to 25% towards the total Combined Private Pilot Certification and Instrument Rating flight training time requirements

The unit comes with a full PC rack system complete with licensed software, Instructor Operator Station (IOS) which allows users to create scenarios, set weather conditions, change time of day or night, select any airport (worldwide) and induce failures. The (included) Garmin 530 offers virtually full functionality.

There are also many options to choose from such as visual system (projection dome system or LCD panel display), avionics and motion and vibration system to name just a few.

Customers can also enjoy fast delivery times due to a number of these units now being in stock and ready to go. Support staff are based around the world and customised service level agreements can be offered in addition to standard warranty conditions.

RYAN AEROSPACE Wins Navy Contract for Multiple Helicopter Simulator Units

Deputy Commander Fleet Air Arm, Captain Grant O'Loughlan, Royal Australian Navy took possession of three RYAN AEROSPACE virtual reality helicopter simulators at an official handover ceremony at HMAS Albatross, Nowra, NSW Australia.

The three simulators will be used by the Fleet Air Arm's Naval Aviation Prospects Scheme as an engagement tool to attract the interest of aspiring aircrew to join the Royal Australian Navy.

Captain O'Loughlan said that he was impressed with the new simulators and (coming from a helicopter background) somewhat surprised with how realistic they were. He added that it was important for the Australian Defence Force to support local entrepreneurial businesses such as RYAN AEROSPACE. He said these simulator units will be a valuable asset for Navy in supporting Defence Force recruiting.

Managing Director of RYAN AEROSPACE, Chris Ryan said he was "delighted to partner with the Navy to develop a bespoke system in conjunction with the highly popular HELIMOD Mark III product launched earlier this year". The units take advantage of improved capability of virtual reality technology.

In addition to the HELIMOD Mark III helicopter simulator units, RYAN AEROSPACE developed a unique accompanying unit comprising a PC and monitor with integrated cabling and head-tracking sensors. This allows spectators to see on a display screen what the pilot is seeing in the virtual reality goggles. The display unit has wheels attached and doubles as a shipping crate by being laid down flat, with the HELIMOD device sitting right on top. This allows staff to push the devices easily to the purposely modified van for transportation.

The simulators have motion actuators attached to the base and link with the simulation software to provide an even more realistic experience.

It is expected that the simulators will be getting constant use as they travel around the country to various events including the International Air Show at Avalon in February.

The handover ceremony in Nowra earlier this week attracted some significant interest from Captain Fiona Sneath, Commanding Officer HMAS Albatross and Commanding Officers from Fleet Air Arm Squadrons.

Mr Ryan said that in a few weeks, RYAN AEROSPACE will be participating at the world's largest military simulation and training event in Orlando, Florida and will be taking two devices. The HELIMOD Mark III has attracted a great deal of interest from another International Navy entity who will be participating in a trial program using the product in December.

US Army Chooses RYAN AEROSPACE to Supply 31 Helicopter Simulators at Fort Rucker, Alabama

RYAN AEROSPACE Australia has been awarded a contract to supply more than 30 HELIMOD Mark III helicopter simulators for the US Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama - the world's largest helicopter training facility.

The contract is part of the Army's "Aviator Training Next" or "ATN" Program, an experimental, yet innovative, new way to provide helicopter pilot training during the primary phase using the latest in virtual reality (VR) technology and high-end, commercially available helicopter simulator equipment.

Managing Director of RYAN AEROSPACE, Chris Ryan said he was "delighted to partner with the US Army and prime contractor SAIC to work on this ground-breaking project".

The system is supported by an after-action review software package that automatically assesses, grades and logs the student's performance.

The project is multi-faceted and many teams are working together to ensure the best possible outcome. A dedicated team based at West Point (The United States Military Academy) will be conducting a thorough research project to objectively assess the outcomes of the project and report back on ways to improve it even further. The experiment will run until mid-2020, upon which the US Army will decide if this is a valid means of training.

All 31 systems have been delivered and installed ahead of schedule and the US Army Aviators have commenced the experimental training.

RYAN AEROSPACE (Australia) has been working with Precision Flight Controls (PFC) based in Sacramento to support the project and we will be co-exhibiting at I/ITSEC from 2-6 December in Orlando, Florida, USA. I/ITSEC is the world's largest military training and simulation event.

This contract has helped win RYAN AEROSPACE a Queensland Premier's Export Award and made them finalists in the National Awards.
